Vandals sometimes use acid or abrasive tools to etch or gouge glass, leaving permanent damage if untreated. Our glass specialists first assess the depth of the etching, then restore clarity using a multi-stage polishing system:
1. Damage Assessment & Masking
We inspect each pane to gauge etch depth and pattern, then mask off surrounding frames and fittings to protect against overspray and debris.
2. Precision Polishing
Using cerium-oxide or diamond-infused polishing pads on variable-speed polishers, we gently abrade away etched layers in progressive grits—restoring a smooth, clear finish without disturbing surrounding glass.
3. Fine Polish & Inspection
After coarse polishing, we switch to ultra-fine pads and polishers to remove micro-scratches, then clean and inspect under bright light to ensure full removal of the etch.
4. Protective Coating (Optional)
To guard against future vandalism, we can apply a clear sacrificial coating that allows any new etching to be removed easily without re-polishing the glass surface.
